Body |
|
The Jeep® ActionCamper© is made of fiberglass. The interior is glued to the body as a structural reinforcement to achieve an innovative light weight design. Because the original hardtop, tailgate, rear seat and seatbelts, and the rear roll cage are removed, the vehicle weight is increased by only 200 KG (440 LB). All components are designed in 3D CAD to make even the smallest areas useful. There are even hidden compartments next to the roll-bar. All taillights are Jokon 730 LED fail proof, power-saving lights. The complete camper can be taken off the vehicle in a short time, using a garage harness, hoist, or optional stands; if opted they can be stored under the body side-fairings; the rear telescopic stands drop down from the inside of the rear seat compartments.
The side-fairings are designed to improve esthetics and aerodynamics. They have a 6mm - (1/4") flex gap between the fairing and the body; and are mounted with race type quarter turn screws; they include an integrated clip-in storage for the optional front camper stands kit that comes with a waterproof, lockable cover (with integrated window) that closes off the pass-through.
The included half-door inserts for the Jeep Unlimited are very lightweight glass fiber, use automotive seals and bolt-on. Optionally they can be fitted with lockable insert doors (Dometic SK5) to access the large storage spaces behind the seats and the half-doors.
A larger version of the same type of lockable doors (Dometic SK5) can be ordered as an option to provide access to the kitchen cabinets from the outside; perform maintenance on the stove / sink combination or other installations from outside of the camper. If these doors are ordered together with the half-door lockable doors you get the all four doors keyed alike. |
Windows |
|
The rear and side double-walled windows (Dometic S4) have roller bug screens and reflective thermo roller curtains. They offer three opening positions plus a lockable ventilation position. The roof window (Dometic HEKI DeLuxe) has a roller bug screen and a reflective double-walled, thermo slide curtain. It opens 78° towards the rear, has lockable ventilation positions; it serves as a roof exit too; when the vehicle is pointed towards the wind the half open window will draw the most air to the inside; a turnkey dash light warns you if you forgot to close the window; the inside window cover frame integrates four ambient lights, upgraded with energy saving LED's. |
Roof |
|
The roof is made of a glass fiber surrounding frame with longitudinal fins that prevent the roof from flexing, the roof window, solar panels, or other from getting damaged; the fins improve the aerodynamics too; the flat center section is made of extremely lightweight glass fiber honeycomb, strong enough to walk on. To use the area in front of the window as a photo/viewing platform, we offer an optional aluminum diamond plate surface. As a further option we offer aircraft tracks with adjustable location tie-down hardware to carry a second spare tire or other expedition gear. The area behind the roof window is reserved for optional solar panels. The roof tent canvas has large left, right and rear bug screen windows with roll-up blinds and optional Velcro mountable vinyl windows. As a further option we offer a detachable thermo insulation cover with integrated vinyl windows for colder climates. |
Nook storage |
|
The very front of the nook offers two large cabinets with fold-down doors to the right and left of the spare tire cover, closed by adjustable compression handles. Behind the spare tire cover is enough space for a 35" MT tire. An anti- odor, anti-dirt tire-cover with an all-around zipper at the top side is included, so tire changing tools and spare parts can be stored inside the rim. This spare tire storage solution helps to achieve better aerodynamics, weight distribution, departure angle and easier entry into the ActionCamper from the rear. |
Sleeping area |
|
The king-size bed measures 200x180cm (79"x71") and can be fitted with conventional bed sheets. To sleep you simply unfold the mattress back towards the countertops, which serve as bedside tables. The mattress elements have integrated panels to bridge between the countertops. The elements are connected with zippers, so you can create a sleeping space for one person, while the other may cook. There are two large extra pillows. The detachable covers are made of washable, cleanable, anti-mildew, imitation suede. On both sides are swappable gooseneck lights (Osram CoPilot 12V with 20cm / 7.9" goosenecks). |
Kitchen area |
|
Mounted on the left countertop is a 3-burner stove and sink combination with fold down glass-lid, integrated knobs and starter button (Dometic MO 8323 Rubinetto 39). The faucet may be pulled out to extend as a shower or a toilet / bidet combination; a pouch cover stores it rattle free under the stove grate. A valve with electric switch to run a pump on-demand is used. All plumbing, wiring etc. complies with U.S. standards. The U.S. distributor is an expert in building overland and expedition vehicles and will offer every possible option. On both sides are swappable gooseneck lights (see the chapter "Sleeping area").
The right countertop is a work space. Optionally a separate sink can be installed here (not recommended if you want to use the right countertop as a bed while cooking on the left countertop). Two large cabinet doors on each side, with adjustable compression handles, give access to large storage areas. On the right side is the placement of the (Thetford PP 365) chemical toilet with 15 liters (4 gallons) fresh water / 21 liters (5.5 gallons) black water capacity; it may be used in the kitchen alley, where the faucet can be reached for rinsing.
Also the shelves and cabinets are glued to the body to strengthen the structure. The bottom shelves have flush mounted, take-out lids to reach the hidden storage compartments. Down in the "basement" is room for tanks, batteries, etc.; optional external doors let you load the cabinets from the outside (see the chapter "Body").
The kitchen floor has a large lid with adjustable compression handle, opening towards the front. This extremely large center "basement" gives room for heavy items or hardware.
The 40 liter (42 quart) top-loading refrigerator (WAECO Coolmatic CB-40) is located below the front pass-through and comes with a removable, vegetable basket. The lid opens to the left side, so it can be opened from the front seat by the passenger when underway. The external compressor may be taken out together with the refrigerator within minutes for servicing. |
Bathroom area |
|
The dining area can fitted with a shower option; the shower curtain is hung to a roof hook; the pull-out faucet is placed in a faucet roof bracket; the floor carped is replace by a grate; the bolt-in plug is removed; the shower grey water tank is place under the rear of the camper. The shower can be used outside too. |
Dining area |
|
Under the fold up dining seats are huge storage compartments. The optional rear telescopic stands drop down from the inside (see the chapter "Body"). The nicely rounded backrests and the little extra pillows are reusable for other purposes. The detachable covers and the seat upholstery are made of washable, cleanable, anti-mildew, imitation suede. The table may be rotated to both sides to grant walk-through access. To store the table rattle-free, the surface can be turned vertically and clamped between a rubber-protected recessment of the armrest and the kitchen cabinets. The clamps and the L-shaped tube are high quality yacht parts (Zwaard Vis - Columbus) that allow rotation around every axis and movement fore and aft. The armrests have heavy-duty mounts so they can be used to step up to the bed. On both sides are swappable gooseneck lights (see the chapter "Sleeping area").
A lightweight, tubular, foldable system to convert the table and both seats for outdoor use is an option. |
Interior surface |
|
All areas bordering the outside surface are covered with a special insulating, anti-mildew, thick carpet; the nook area under the mattresses is carpeted too, to prevent the mattress from sliding while you sleep; inside the cabinets these surfaces are covered by a special insulating, anti-mildew, thick neoprene. |
Camper accessories |
|
As an option we offer a conversion of the cut-off roll cage, so it can be reinstalled; a round flange is welded to the upper tube, and another one to the tube at the rear fender; the cut-off roll cage will be trimmed for the wall thickness of the flanges and corresponding flanges are welded on; the roll cage can be reinstalled with six bolts on each side. Additional to this option we offer an aluminum roll cage that is integrated inside of the cabinets of the ActionCamper; the same corresponding flanges connect to the vehicle with six bolts on each side. |
Future projects |
|
We plan to do a pick-up conversion kit as a base for the Jeep® ActionCamper© Unlimited. The rear half doors would be the ones delivered with the ActionCamper© Unlimited model. The tub would be one piece, including the vertical part up to the upper bed edge, also connecting with the half doors. The front hardtop elements are factory stock; the rear hardtop looks like the rear section of the stock hardtop and integrates the stock window / wiper / washer. So the rear window can be lifted to transport long things. The tub and half doors will be built in a way as to not interfere with the ActionCamper©. After storing the ActionCamper© there are just three hardtop pieces to mount in order to convert the Jeep into a closed cab pick-up truck; instead of the tailgate a net may be used. This conversion will use all spaces between the tub and the outer body and floor; long items can be transported. Since all parts would be bolt-on, only the trimming of the roll cage may be a challenge to the DIY buyer. |
